Belmore Sports Ground is once again preparing to host top-tier rugby league, with the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs set to take on the North Queensland Cowboys this Thursday night in what will be the fourth NRL premiership match at the historic venue since its part-time return to the competition calendar last year.
The game marks a rare meeting between the two clubs at Belmore. The last time the Bulldogs and Cowboys clashed at the iconic facility was on 31 March 1997 during the Super League era. Even more notably, it falls just days before the 21st anniversary of the Bulldogs' commanding 66-4 win over the Cowboys at Belmore on 27 August 1995.
Back to Belmore President Luke Cevolani said the fixture is another proud chapter for the community-driven revival of the historic venue.
"Every game played at Belmore is a celebration of what this suburban ground means to our local area," Mr Cevolani said.
"Whether it's the memories of the '90s or the excitement of today, Belmore continues to bring people together. It's proof that when you invest in community, you get something truly special in return."
Vice President Steven Cataldi said these events make a real difference to the local economy and help keep Belmore thriving.
"People don't just come for the footy - they come for the Belmore experience," Mr Cataldi said.
"You'll see families, old friends, long-time supporters, and new faces all soaking up the atmosphere at one of the most fabled suburban venues in Western Sydney."
Since 2015, Back to Belmore has played a key role in supporting the return of NRL games to the precinct on a part-time basis, continuing its mission to preserve and revitalise Belmore Sports Ground.
